Ampara

Ampara District is 4431.4 Sq. kilometers in extent and has a population of 651512 Sinhala, Muslim and Tamil are the 3 major communities living in the district and the ethic ratio is 41’26% Muslim, 39.89 Sinhala, 18.41 % Tamil and 0.44 others in 20 administrative divisions locating in the eastern province of Sri Lanka.

Ampara Branch of Sri Lanka Red Cross Society was established in 1990 and since then the branch has been providing its basic Red Cross Services with volunteers and management staff. After Tsunami devastation humanitarian activities the branch with other Partner National Societies expanded covering all the core areas as well as non core areas depending on the required humanitarian assistance.

Housing construction, hospital construction, water and sanitation improvement projects, Disaster Management and Disaster Risk Reduction projects, Restoring Family Links, Promoting Humanitarian Values and Organizational Development projects are some the major activities we have been carrying out.
