The branch Community Based Disaster Management project conducted a series of programs for school children educating and preparing them on possible future disasters. The knowledge they gain through these programs will help them and their families and their neighboring communities to minimize the impact of a disaster or taking precautionary actions to prevent or mitigate the impact of disasters.
30 students participated in the program conducted at the Pandiruppu Vidyalayam in Pandiruppu on 4th of this month. Danish RC helps the branch conducting these programs.

The branch has identified some schools in Maruthamunai division that do not have proper water facilities for their children. As a solution to this problem, the branche donated one water tank to one of those schools and monitered the usefulness of having such facility. Children properly use the facility motivating the branch staff to donate a second tank for the benefit of another school in the area this month.

30 students from Shums Central College in Maruthamaunai who successfully completed the school First Aid training program were awarded with certificates at a function held on 9th.

To disseminate the Red Cross Blood Donation program and recruit more donors for future blood donation camps, two programs were held in Sammanthurai and Kekirhena areas on 7th and 21st of this month respectively. Nearly 133 persons showed their willingness to donate blood in the future. Hony. Branch Chairman Sunil Dissanayake participated to the program encouraging the future donors.
With the funding support of Danish RC, branch Disaster Management Project built 83 meter long fence covering a part of the boundary of Tharangawa Janaraja Vidyalaya in Ampara. At present estimate is being prepaired to extend the fence covering another 94 meters.

To improve the sanitation facilities in schools branch has completed building of 9 latrines in 3 schools, Uhana Maha Vidyalaya, Hegoda Sri Indrasara Maha Vidyalalya and
Udayapura Vidyalaya in Ampara during the month. This is another event of school based disaster management programs conducted by branch with the financial support of Danish RC.
First Aid for Life: The Red Cross has identified the worth of giving first aid training for taxi drivers and cops because they are the people who are working in the busiest places in the towns from morning to late evening. The program "First Aid for Life" trained 30 drivers who are on duty in Sammanthurai area at the training program conducted on 17th of this month.
The branch First Aid Team provided their service at a tree planting campaign organized to celebrate National Tree Planting Day on 15th of this month. 600 school children involved in several activities at the camp field on Aranthalawa Maha Oya grass land and 10 first aid volunteers were engage in providing first aid.
A program organized for the community living in Kalmunai and Mahaoya area made them aware of Red Cross Blood Donation program and recruited more blood donors for future blood donation camps. 78 came forward and expressed willingness to donate blood to save the life of unknown people who need blood. The Hony. Branch Chairman Mr. Sunil Dissanayake also participated to the program held on 23rd.
The branch Community Based Health project organized a agriculture training program for the volunteers attached to their project from Kalmuanai area. The program started on 13th and 30 volunteers got benefited. They also had the opportunity of visiting the Santhrakondan agriculture farm which helps them to realize the applications of their learning's.
The Kamunai Community Based Health volunteers participated for the "Life Skill Development" two day program conducted by the branch. 30 participated the program started on 06th and it was conducted by the branch CBH project.

Save lives of animals in Kumana Santuary: Supplying water for the wild animals effected by preveiling doought is continuing for this month too to save the lives of wild animals.
First Aid traing for JRC members: Three first aid training programs were concluded for the Junior Red Cross members during this month. These trained JRC members will be useful for their schools when first aid is needed.

School Nutritional Program: Branch has conducted several school educational programs to students to improve their health practices and nutritional condition. The program organized this time was for make them aware about the balanced nutritional meal. 65 school children studied in Hegoda Indrasara Vidyalaya involved in this program held on 8th of this month.
Unit Meeting: Strengthening the membership and planning activities at divisional level a unit meeting was held for the members of Kolavil unit in Alayadivembu division on 5th. The work plan under the branch Early Warning Project was discussed at this meeting for which 25 members of the unit were summoned.
Community awarness program: Branch regularly organises awareness programs for the vulnerable communities to educate them to keep them prepared to face for the disasters which they may face in the future. The program organized in the Maruthamunai division was focus on the Disaster Management Awareness and it was conducted from 11th to 18th. 500 community members participated.
On 25th a awarness program focussing on dengue control was held for 150 people living in the Ampara area.

Water Distribution to Wild Life Sanctuary, Kumana: The branch involved in providing water to save the life of wild animals live in Kumana sanctuary where all water sources used by wild animals completely dried, and there are no ways and means of water for drinking since June 2009. Read more..
The first aid team of the branch including 55 volunteers conducted a first aid camp at Okanda for the benefit of devotees who return to their homes after worshiping Kataragama Sacred place. About 1200 were treated betwenn 22nd of July to 06th of this month.

Health awarness program for JRC members: 75 school children from Shums Central College in Maruthamunai attended to an educational program on good health practices. These children are the members of the college Junior Red Cross Circle and they benefited from the program funded by Danish RC supported Disaster Management project.
Distribution of shcool uniforms: The branch has built strong links with the district schools through the school based Red Cross committees like "Kakulu samajaya" and Junior Red Cross circles. To strengthening this relationship and help district school children the branch distributed school uniforms among 170 selected school children at a function held on 17th.
Shramadana campaign held on 1st: A shramadana campaign was held a preschool premises in Kumana to clean and make school premises a safe place for its children. 35 parents, branch staff and volunteers worked throughout the day to make this program a success.
Donate Blood and Save a Life: Branch was able to identify 60 persons who are willing to donate blood to save another valuable life, at a blood donor recruitment program held on 07th. Most out of the 60 are the youth.
To disseminate the Red Cross message and improving youth support for the Red Cross activities branch donated sports items among the selected sports clubs. 8 sports clubs in Kalmunai area received sports items this time at a function organized on 15th.
The branch conducted the dissemination programme on branch activities for the community members in Pathiyathalawa on 25th and 26th of this month. 27 community members participated in this two day program.

Hundreds of Hindu pilgrims were given first aid services at Okanda in Ampara District where they gathered prior to begin their foot march to Kataragama sacred area through Yala Forest. They make this pilgraimage of over hundred kilometers annually to offer their respect to the "God Skanda"
Branch first aid team supported more than 1200 people providing first aid services and 55 volunteers with first aid branch staff devoted their time to make this assignment a success.
The following training and dissemination programs were conducted by the branch during the month.
- A BDRT training cum knowledge sharing two day workshop held in Ampara by the branch. 150 BDRT members participated this program and best performances were honored with certificates and awards.
- BDRT refresher training on First Aid with the intention of enriching the FA knowledge among BDRT members were conducted recently. This four day training started on 29th of this month and 125 BDRT members in the district participated.
- Community members in Panama South area summon on 19th of this month to discus the future plans on Early Warning Project activities in their villages. The methods of propagating early warning messages effectively and accurately within a short period of time were discussed here. 40 participated and Field Officer of the Early Warning Project Mr. S Wanigarathna was the resource person of this event.
- As a continuation of School Based Disaster Management training a one day session was conducted for the prefect and school teachers of Koknahara Maha Vidyalaya, Damana Maha Vidyalaya and Karangawa Maha Vidyalaya in Ampara District. This one day session held on 3rd of this month was organized to make aware the school children and teachers about the Disaster Management Actions. 30 participated.
- 30 of volunteer Community Disaster Response Team members from Maruthamaunai and Pottuvil were gathered to the branch for a training session started on 23rd of this month. The aim of this five day session was boost up the response skills as the CDRT member. Danish RC funded for this project.
- 25 youth members from Akkaraipattu Division were given a Basic First Aid training on 4th of July. About 25 participated the IFRC Early Warning Project funded this program.
- A school based Disaster Management triaining program was conducted for the teachers and prefects of Uhana Maha Vidyalaya, Suhathagama Maha Vidyalaya and Udayapura Maha Vidyalaya in Ampara. 30 participated for the training session held on 5th of this month.
- The community based disaster management training was conducted for the community members in Pottuvil division on 29th. 30 participated.

The branch gives hands to improve the quality of the Maruthamaunai school by cleaning their school premises during the shermadana campaighn organize on 02nd of this month. The branch Disaster Management Team brought 40 of volunteers and youth members for this event and Danish RC supported to success this program.
Red Cross has identified educating school children are the most effective and practical way of sending a message to the community. With this in mind branch organized a school based disaster management training program at Sainthamaruthu Hall Ampara for school children and teachers. All together Maruthamunai-Shums Maha Vidyalaya, Maruthamaunai-Al-Manar Maha Vidyalalya and Ganesha Maha Vidyalaya participated for this trading program
First Aid service is one of the leading humanitarian services provided by the Red Cross. To improve and maintain high quality of service branch organized a first aid training program for the youth selected from Kalmunai, Alayadiwembu, Akkaraipattu and Thirukkovil Youth Divisions. 150 underwent this training program supported by the IFRC-Early Warning Project.
A well cleaning and awareness program on the importance of maintaining well out of pollution was conducted for the families in Kalmunai area. 180 benefited from the program organize under the As a continuation of the Community Based Health project supported well cleaning Community Based Health Project of SLRCS-DRC
Following dissemination and training programs were conducted by the branch during the month.
- 65 particiapted for the dissemination program held for Maha Oya Divisional members
- HIV and sexual transmitted diseases awarness programme for 95 beneficiaries sleeted from Pottuvil and Arugambay Divisions
- 03 day life skill development training program for school teachers and government youth officers conducted at the branch office.
The branch supported the school wall painting program organized by the Sammanthurai central college on 6th of this month
A shramadana campaign was organized to clean the Thirukkovil Temple area on 12th. The aim of this event is to improve the temple premises a environmental friendly place for the worshipers and illuminate dengue breeding places from the area.
With the intention of improving the quality of the services provided by the branch a new divisional office was opened in Kalmunai Area. The National Secretary of SLRCS S H Nimal Kumar, Branch Chairman, Sunil Disanayaka and other staff officers joined the function held on 11th.
A blood donor recruitment program was held on 14th of this month. 90 participants were expressed their willingness to participate in future blood donor programs as donors.

Dengue awareness procession was conducted in Ampara on 13th of this month to educate and get the public support to control spreading dengue in the area. This was organized as a part of improve the public health condition in the Ampara District. MOH Ampara, Government officers, branch staff, branch project staff and more than 150 school children and public participated in this procession.
Branch has launched more activities to eliminate dengue from Ampara district. Cleaning and destroying mosquito breeding places through awareness programmes in the Ampara MOH office area was took place on 12th with support of more than 200 community members, branch staff, DRC, CBH volunteers and youth members.
Another distribution of Ceramic Water Filters was took place at Kalmunai Danish RC, CBH project office on 5th of this month. 95 filters were distributed among beneficiaries selected from the Kalmunai area. BEO of the branch and the CBH, DRC project coordinator handed over filters to beneficiaries.
Subsequently a demonstration was conducted on cleaning and maintenance of the water filters on the following day.
16 First Aid volunteers and two first aid instructors camped at Buddangala and Deegawapee Viharaya premises to serve the pilgrims coming during Vesak poya season. Danish RC funded to success the program.
Danish RC funded Community Based Health project conducted a "Life Skill Development" training program for branch staff and other stakeholders. Scholl teachers, government youth officers, 25 branch officers were the participants and they will train volunteers and youth members in the Ampara District in the future.
A shramadana campaign was conducted on 7th to clean the elder's home in Ampara in view of the World Red Cross Day. Governors, branch staff and more than 55 volunteers and youth members participated for this shramadana camp.
A first aid training program was held for benefit of youth members of the Kalmunai Youth Division on 9th. 30 participated for the program conducted by instructor Mr. Rathanakanathan.

New Year Celebration-2009: On 8th of this month volunteers, junior circle members, youth members, unit and divisional members, governess with all staff members attached to the branch gathered at the public ground for a functioned organized for the Sinhala and Hindu New Year. About 280 enjoyed the day by participating for many activities and it was an opportunity for all participants to known each other and strengthening the institutional relationship.
First Aid Service program was organized and help villagers live in "village 05" during the new Year day, 14th of April. 48 were treated and dedication of 8 helped the success the program.
Danish RC funded Disaster Management project staff organized a Shramadana program on 02nd of this month. 30 villagers participated in this program held in Thurawanthiyanmedu.

The fence of the Thurawanthiyanmedu School was constructed under the Disaster Management project of the branch on 12th.
A access road is being rehabilitated in Kalmunai area with the assistance of the Danish RC funded DM project. A progress review visit was made by the Danish RC DM delegate, branch BEO and the DM Programme Coordinator recently.
A leadership training program was conducted for the benefit of the Pottuvil Division Youth members. 30 youth participated the programme held on 29th of this month. Mr. N B Nowzath, Branch Development officer was the resource person for this event.

A community awareness lecture programe under the IFRC funded "Early Warning" project was conducted for the divisional members of Addalaichenai division on 3rd of this month. 40 participated from the respective division
Branch Disaster Response Team (BDRT) training program was conducted for the Branch volunteers and Danish RC funded DM & CBH project staff members at Kandy. 35 attended this 9 day program began on 26th of last month.
With the intention of disseminating Red Cross activities and attracting more youth volunteers at the divisional level, two "Youth Unit" establishment programs were conducted on 20th and 21st of this month in two divisions. 40 youth participated from Sammanthurai Division for the program held on 20th and 60 were participated from Panama Division for the program held on the following day.

As the continuation of CRRP, Ceramic Water Filter distribution projecton 16th of March another set of ceramic water filters was distributed among the families in Pottuvil Area. 1032 families have the chance of using pure drinking water after this distribution.
35 Volunteers attached to the CRRP project, participated in a shramadana campaign for cleaning the Pottuvil Al-Hithaya Vidyalaya premises. The CRRP project staff members of the Pottuvil area organized this program.
CRRP funded drainage and well construction work is underway in the Pottuwil area and on 23rd CRRP staff members of Pottuwil area inspected the progress of the construction work.
A bus halt has been constructed in Pottuvil area with the support of the CRRP funds.
Several school based Disaster Management awareness programs were conducted during the month as fillows. These included establishment of DM units in each school.

The branch distributed Ceramic water filters:- on 28th of January among the community at a function held at Ninthavur Community Hall .They were educated how to use the water filters as a source of pure drinking water and how to clean and maintain the filters. A Hygiene promotion program followed.134 filters have been distributed in Pottuwil area and 60 in Thirukkowi area The distribution supported by American Red cross was conducted under the Community Recovery and Reconstruction Partnership Programme.
With the support of IFRC and NHQ Early Warning Project, Hazard Mapping programs were conducted by the branch in Addalaichenai, Alayadiwemboo, Akkaraipattu and Nintavur divisions in 3 consecutive days with the participation of 280 volunteers.
Conclusion of the OD and CBH programms:- The Finland RC supported three year OD and CBH programs ended in December 2008. After the project evaluation conducted in February 2009 Branch Development Officer and Youth officer will continue their services till end of this year. 40 volunteers were awarded with certificates appreciating their services provided during the project period. Bags and T-shirt were given to them as gifts.
Opening of the new office for Panama Division:- was held in 07th of this month with the participation of the BEO, Program Coordinators and volunteers. Nearly 100 divisional community members also participated.
A new library was opened at Maha Oya :- for the benefit of the community in the area.
A monitoring and evaluation training :- program was held in Nuwareliya on 17th and 18th of February 2009. 25 trainees participated and Danish RC DM and CBH staff members form Ampara and Moneragala were among the participants.

Leadership Training for Junior First Aid Group members:- A leadership training programme was conducted for Junior First Aid group members of Sammanthurai Central College in Sammathurai, Ampara on 13th & 14th this month. 30 students took part in the training programme meant for improving their leadership skills.
TOT for DM Staff and Volunteers:- As the part of the Program of Disaster Management Project in Ampara District Training of Trainers workshop was held in Kandy from 16th to 23rd of this month under the guidance of DM Department NHQ. 70 participants comprising branch staff, youth members and volunteers participated in this workshop. The objective of the progrmme was to enhance the capacity of the society in training more community based volunteers school children and others in activities related to disaster management.
Orientation workshop on Early Warning:- An Early Warning project has been launched by the SLRCS Ampara branch. This month orientation workshop was conducted for the staff members of Divisional Secretary office of Kalmunai on 6th. This project is being supported by the IFRC in covers 9 divisions of Ampara Disteruct. The divisions are Kalmunai, Sammanthurai, Karathive, Nindavuur, Attalachchanai, Thirukkovil, Potuwil, Panama and Lahugala. 35 participated.
Shramadana Campaign held during the month:- Branch conducted a Shramadana Campaign to clean the garden of Mosque at Potuwil with the support of 25 volunteers and community members on 25th.
Hygiene Awareness Program:- A Hygiene Awarness Programme was conducted for 40 community members in Kalmunai Division under the CBH program of the Branch.

First Aid Box Distribution:- 223 first aid boxes have been distributed among community members in Kalmunai, Ampara under a program initiated by the branch. The Community Reconstruction & Recovery project of UNHabitat has supported for this project. This will help the community especially in rural areas to meet emergency first aid requirements of their members.

Workshop on Early Warning and Disaster Preparedness:- With the experiences gained through engaging disaster response efforts, National Head Quarters Disaster Management Department held a workshop on early warning mechanism and disaster preparedness for the branch staff and volunteers in the district. The goal of this two day workshop held in 13 and 14 of December 2008 in Akkaraipattu Division, was reduction of losses and damages of peoples lives, livelihood and properties through well functioning early warning mechanism and disaster preparedness to prevent hazards from turning into disasters.
Volunteer Day Celebration:- 19 volunteers engaged in the fields of Youth activities, First Aid, Disaster Management, Community Recovery and Reconstruction partnership projects, Community Based Health Projects, were awarded at the function organized to mark the World Volunteer Day. The Hony. Chairman Sunil Dissanayake and other staff officers from the branch and NHQ participated to the function held at the Ariyawan Hotel in Ampara on 6th of December 2008.
CBH activities:- To improve the living conditions of the communities by educating them on best hygiene practices, a kitchen hygiene practices program was conducted for women in Lahugala Division. 25 participated in this program held under the Community Based Health Program in branch area funded by Finish RC.
More education programs for Junior First Aid members:- 70 Junior First Aid members gathered to the Sri Indrasara Vidyalaya, Hegoda on 16 and 18th of this month for a First Aid camp. This 2 day program was focused on teaching First Aid, Leadership, HIV awareness and Early Warning issues.
Volunteers help in keeping healthy environemnt :- 15th of this month 10 volunteers and community members walked house to house to draw the attention of the public about the importance of keeping the environment clean in order to prevent health hazards. They emphasised the proper disposal of garbage and the public response on this activity was positive.
National Safety Day celebrations :- To mark the National Safety day that felt on the 26th December 2008 the branch organized a mass awareness caravan in Kalmaunai division under the theme of "Towards Safer Sri Lanka". The mass rally started from Karaitivu (South of Kalmunia), and Maruthamunai (North Side of Kalmunai). It was concluded at Brothers of Charity Kalmunai. The participants of the rally were engaged in activities such as folk songs, first aid street drama and distribution of hand bills, IEC materials. This activity ended after a meeting held with the participation of District Secretary and Chairman of the branch and stakeholders.

First Aid Box Distribution:- 223 first aid boxes have been distributed among community members in Kalmunai, Ampara under a program initiated by the branch. The Community Reconstruction & Recovery project of UNHabitat has supported for this project. This will help the community especially in rural areas to meet emergency first aid requirements of their members.

Community Disaster Preparedness Presentation:- Under the DM project in Ampara district, the Community Disaster Preparedness Presentation was held in Maruthamunai on 18th. 52 participants including volunteers, youth members and staff members were present. The main objective was to keep the participants informed of the importance of disaster preparedness to meet in any possible future disasters in the district.
Shramadana Campaign held during the month:- The Branch conducted a Shramadana programme at the Al-Hilal school in Sainthamaruthu with the assistance of volunteers and school Junior Circle members on 22nd of October 2008. Nearly, 55 personnel took part in the event with much dedication. As the part of the program a tree planting campaign was held.
Meeting of Divisional Representatives:- The meeting of the Divisional Representatives of the branch was held in the branch auditorium on 14th of this month. 26 representatives from Kalmunai, Karaitivu, Thirukkovil, Uhana, Ampara,, Lahugala and Pottuvil were present at the meeting chaired by branch Chairman Sunil Dissanayake. They discussed the future planning of the SLRCS activities in the district.

The branch conducted a four Residential First Aid Camp at Kalmunai which began on 23. 37 Basic First Aiders participated in this Camp which conducted in Tamil medium. . Participants were educated about Basic First Aid methods and leadership qualities.
DM Coordination meeting:- The coordination meeting between branch DM staff and Government DM staff was held on 24th of October 2008. The theme of the meeting was to identify the activities and challenges in the future programs.
Junior circle unit establishment:- A Red Cross Junior circle was establish in a school in Ampara on 20th. 40 juniors attended.

First Aid Service:- Two week first aid service camp was conducted at Okanda since 05th of this month for the benefits of the people gathered to a religious ceremony. 25 volunteers supported to conduct the camp and nearely 865 peoples obtained services.
Staff and the volunteers participated for skill development workshops:-
- A Training of Trainers methodology workshop was organized to train qualified trainers in the field of CBDRM. 30 TOT's participated in the program held during the period of 6th to 12th July held in Kandy.
- Two sessions of IGP training workshops were held 31st and 1st of August for the benefit of the branch volunteers and the staff members. Altogether 40 participated for the sessions. The objective of this IGP workshop is tp prepare participants for profit earning activities which helpful for the branch sustainability.
Youth Activities:- To provide the youth an opportunity to work and learn as a team in an ideal environment, branch active volunteers were summoned to the Zonal Zahira College in Sammanthurai for a two day workshop. 30 participated in the workshop conducted during 25th to 27th.
Other Activities:-
- The branch is to build up a fund for conducting First Aid services in future. A musical show was held at the Ampara Town hall on 04th of this month to collect money.
- A CBDRM orientation program was conducted for the staff members of schools in the Ampara district. The objective of the program is to educate heads of schools and teachers on CBDRM and use them as mediators in educating students on Community Based Disaster Response Methodologies. 31 participated in the programme held on 11th.
- Aannual general meetings of Maha Oya, Pottuvil and Ampara divisions were held during this month.

Youth Activities:-
- A 3 day camp was orgnised for the Junior Red Cross Circle at Uhana Maha Vidyalaya premises during the 6th and 8th of this month. 62 Junior Circle members took part with the intention of building up their skills and capacity.
- The sports meet was held by the branch at the Ampara public ground on 28th and 29th. The objective of the sports meet was to uplift the team spirit among the youth and the staff members. Approximately, 310 athletes ceremonially gave the contribution to the events.
Shramadana Campaign:- A shramadana campaign was organized in Okanda to clean the area where the branch planned to arrange first aid service camp for the pilgrims gathering for the cultural festivals going to be held in Okanda and Ktaragama.

Blood Donation programms:- Two blood donation programs were conducted during the month in Ampara and Panama area.

First Aid Services:- The branch first aid team conducted two first aid service programs for pilgrims coming to the Deegawapi Rajamaha Viharaya and Buddangala Rajamaha Viharaya.
Other Activities:-
- The pilot project on construction of latrines was completed in the areas of Natpaddimunai in Chenai kudiyuruppu and Kalmunai.on 3rd. Altogether 3 latrines were constructed and completed and one of the latrines is for the school.
After the pilot project construction people selected from Natpaddimunai in Chenai Kudiyuruppu and Kalmunai were demonstrated the red cross constructed latrines and their standards and also the future latrine requirements.

First Aid Training:- In the month of March Branch has conducted three Junior First aid Training program for the junior school circles at Highrana Maha Viddyalaya, Ampara Kawanthissa Maha Vidyalaya and Damana Maya Viddyalaya. 33, 29, 33 junior members participated respectively in each school.
HIV/AIDS Awareness Program:- During the month of March branch have conducted two awareness program one in Kaimunai for the youth members there and one in Ampara for Ampara youth members.
CRRRP Project:- One First Aid training program and one Community Based Health Awareness program conducted for the CDC members of the Thirukkovil Division.
PNS Supported Tsunami Recovery and reconstruction programs
- Danish RC Supported, CBDM project - Mobilize the BDRTs to monitor and be alert in prevailing flood situation. First steering committee meeting was summoned at the end of the first quarter to discuss about the second quarter activities, plans and budget requirements.
- Danish RC Supported, CBH project - Renovation of six common wells are in progress and volunteers are engage in doing a house hold survey to identify the latrine requirement in the area.
- Finn RC Supported, CBH project - Community level first aid awareness programs on domestic accidents, snake byte and two diarrhea prevention awareness programs were conducted during the month.
Donor driven house construction projects
- Smilpuram house constructions are in progress and about 90% completed. Rectifications are being done, while infrastructure and drainage system built. 193 houses are constructing in this project with the financial support of German RC and IFRCS.
- In Kalmunnai Division, Periyaneelawani and IDD RoadD land condominium house constructions are in progress with the support of Finn RC. Work has been progressed up to 60%.
Other Activities:- - Two day workshop were held for the unit members of the Maha Oya Division. Division members wrere eductaed with the comprehncive RC diesemination program, basic knowledge of Disaster Management activities and HIV Aids awareness program. Annual activity plan for the division was discussed and prepared. Finn Rc, and BRC were funded for this two day program.
- Two sramadhana campaighn were organised during the month. With the involvement of Junior members and the Youth members, cleaned the Galahitiyagoda Maha Viddyalaya school premises and color washed the front parapet wall. The second program was organised to clean the Kalmunai public cemetery. The division youth mambers organised this program.

CBDM Programme:-
- Branch Disaster Response team was kept ready in Addalaichenai, Alayadivembu, Thirukovil, Akkaraipattu, Pottuvil, Kalmunai, Panama areas which had a threat of possible flood. Coordination meetings were held with PNSs, ICRC, and DMU for information sharing and action plans.
- Cooked food was supplied to 40 families displaced in P15 Pottuvil. Dry rations and hygiene kits were distributed for 750 selected beneficiaries in Pottuvil Komari P-22, 23, 24 in January. Dry rations were distributed for 760 selected beneficiaries in Panama South , Panama Sasthrawela, Panama North, Panama West.
First Aid Training:-- Basic First Aid Trainings were provided for 53 Sinhalese and Tamil youth volunteers in Ampara and Kalmunai
- A commercial First aid training was conducted for ICRC local staff in Ampara
Other Activities- A dissemination programme for community was conducted by SLRCS staff for communities in Bakkiyala and Piyangala.
- A leadership training was conducted for 68 CDC members in Pottuvil and Thirukkovil-by a facilitator from Kalmunai.
- First aid boxes were distributed to seven community develiopment centres in Thirukkovil and Pottuvil
- Three units were formed Maligaikadu ,Kalmunaikudy, Nintavur areas for Red Cross activities.
- A Junior Circle was inaugurated in Kalmunai
- 155 newly built houses were handed over to 155 beneficiaries in Akkaraipattu.
- A cooperation meetiing on Branch Annual plan 2008 was conducted for branch staff and key volunteers.
