The branch conducted HIV prevention and Adolescent Reproductive Health program for the teachers and students attached to the schools in Maskeliya area on 9th of this month. A team of nine specialists and junior doctors headed by Dr. Deepthi Samarage educated 300 school children and 60 teachers participated.
Several programs to make aware the use of condom among state community were conducted in Glassaugh and Nuwareliya estates on 17th, 18th and 30th of this month.
On 12th a awareness session was conducted for formed Voluntary Non-Remunerated Blood Donor programme under the club for U and Me Concept. STD and HIV sighn boards are designed and prepared for the use of health dissemination programs and exhibition in future.

A dengue prevention program was carried out in Glassaugh Estate, a tea plantation, in collaboration with the Management and Health Staff of the estate,and Nanuoya Police Station. The programme initiated on the request of community and management of the estate covered whole houses in the estate.
School Scouts of the area, Leaders of the HIV Project, Volunteers of the SLRCS Nuwara Eliya also participated.
This estate is one of the plantations that come under SLRC Health Promotion and HIV Prevention Program.

Due to sudden fire at Wedamulla Estate ten line houses were destroyed on 10th May 2009. 49 persons were displaced after fire.
Affected people were temporary sheltered at the Estate Creche. The branch BEO, staff members and volunteers immediately responded to the situation and provide NRFI. The manager of the Estate, estate welfare officer and the Gramma Nilladari worked with the branch members to provide the relief to the affected people.

The branch responses immediately fire at Queensland Estate:-
- A sudden fire at Queensland Estate in Maskeliya division destroyed 20 line houses on 4th of January 2009. Affected 109 people received relief from Nuwara Eliya SLRCS branch.
Temporarely they were sheltered at the tea factory building of the estate and they were helped by the branch staff and volunteers. The affected people were provided with NFRI items such as clothes, kitchen sets, mats, lanterns, water bags, hrygiene packs etc.
- To disseminate Red Cross activities among the estate community the branch organized a cricket tournament and a road race for the community living in Glassaugh estate parallel the Thai Pongal festival.

Nuwaraeliya BDRT helps fire victims :-
- Ten line houses in Glassaugh Estate in Nanuoya were totally destroyed by a fire and 50 people displaced on 22nd August 2008. The Branch Staff, 10 Volunteers and 6 members of the Disaster Response Team of the branch visited the community and made the assessment of need. After the assessment displaced people were given NFRI such as clothes, kitchen sets, mats, lanterns, water bags, hygiene packs etc., The Estate management staff, Grama Niladhari of Glassaugh Division ,Officer in Charge of Nanuoya Police Station and the DM Coordinator of DM Centre in Nuwara Eliya, worked with the branch to successfully serving the affected community.

- On 15th August 2008, 13 families lived in Staford Estate in Ragala lost their houses and belongings due to a fire. They were temporally housed at Ragala Tamil vidyalaya. The branch staff members, BDRT Team and the volunteers rushed to the scene and did the preliminary assessment of identifying relief requirements. After the assessment displaced persons were given NFRI such as clothes, kitchen sets, mats, lanterns, water bags, hygiene packs etc. by the Branch. The Manager of the Estate, Grama Niladhari of Staford Division and the Principal of Ragala TMV supported the relief effort.

Emergency Response to the displaced people in Thalawakelle :- on 24thof this month. Ten line houses in Glenemore Division St Clair Estate in Thalawakelle were totally destroyed by fire due to power leakage and 41 people were displaced. Displace families were temporary sheltered at St. Clare Tamil Vidyalaya.
The branch immediately responded to the situation with the team of 5 BDRT members and 10 volunteers. After the initial assessment victims were provided with NFRI items such as Clothes, Kitchen sets, Mats, Lanterns, Water Bags, Exercise Books, Hygiene packs etc. The manager of the Estate, Grama Niladhari of the Glenemore Division and other welfare officers also worked with the branch for helping the effected community.

| March, April, May 2008 |

First Aid training:-
- During the period of March 1st to 31st May the branch conducted First Aid programs for Junior Red Cross members NuwaraEliya and Ambagamuwa Divisions. 132 volunteers were trained through these programs.
- During the period the branch conducted three Basic First Aid Training programs in NuwaraEliya, Walapane and Ambagamuwa Divisions. 76 volunteers were trained through these programs.
First Aid Services:- conducted during the period are as follows.
- Boralanda Temple Perehera on 19th of April. 15 Volunteer Participated and 55 people benefited
- Environment cleanup programs in Walapane & Nuwara Eliya. 10 Volunteer Participated and 37 persons have recieved first aid
- Standard Charted Road Run held in Nuwara Eliya on 19th of April. Services were provided with the support of 30 Volunteers and 140 individuals were given first aid
- A week long first aid camp was held at Sripadha from 17th to 23rd of March. This was arranged considering the need of large number of pilgrims coming from various part of the Island for worshiping Siripada. 65 Volunteers participated and 515 pilgrims benefited
A Community Based Health Camp was held at Walapane on 3rd of May. 15 volunteers suported the program which brought benefits to 233 patients in the area

- Opening of a First Aid center at Ragala school on 25th of May
