10th November 2009: The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) today commenced the distribution of 660 metric tons of humanitarian relief items donated to IDPs in Vavuniya donated by the Indian Red Cross. |

During the October 2009 |

23rd October 2009: The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) commenced dispatching 660 metric tons of humanitarian relief items donated by the Indian Red Cross for IDPs in Vauniya for distribution. The relief cargo carried by ship "Captain Colorado" which arrived in July was delayed until now due to various problems in clearance formalities including tax payment issues. |

14th October 2009: The Red Cross Movement has spent Rs.700 million from to date 2009 in responding to the humanitarian needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Vavuniya, Mannar, Jaffna and Trincomalee districts. |

23rd September 2009: Regional Operation and Coordinating Office ( ROCO) was opened by the Hony. Branch Chairman Dr. P. Sathiyalingam on 21st of September 2009, to coordinate, monitor and evaluate the IDP Humanitarian Assistance Programme in North. |

During the August 2009 |

17th August 2009: A relief operation named "MITHU SAHANA" organized by the City branch of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society was inaugurated on 15th August 2009 in Colombo with the intention of collecting and sending relief items to affected fellow citizens in IDP camps in the Northern regions of the country. The "Mithu Sahana" program, a collaborative effort of IFRC and the Vavuniya branch of SLRCS led by the City Branch of SLRCS along with the Youth Wing of the City Branch will continue for six months. Items such as bottled water, buiscuits, unused clothing including under wears, school items will be accepted. However donations in cash cannot be made and will not be accepted. The "Mithu Sahana" website was inaugurated by Coordinating Secretary to H.E. the President Kumarasiri Hettige in presence of President of SLRCS Jagath Abeysinghe and City branch Chairman Ranjith Wijesooriya. |

06th August, 2009: Through an arranged tour by Walker Tours with Dutch partner Namaste Reizen, a group of students called MEDUSA, from Leiden in Netherlands visited the SLRCS NHQ on the 3rd of August 2009 and donated 300 SMA Milk Powder tins for the children in the IDP camps in the North. |

21st July, 2009: As auxiliaries to the humanitarian services of the government of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Red Cross has identified certain gaps in serving the vulnerable, especially hospital patients, infants and pregnant women living in welfare centers in Vavuniya and has distributed 10,000 relief and hospital admission packs. Each of these packs to the value of Rs. 2,500 contain soap, bed sheet, saree, towel, glucose comb spoons biscuits plastic matt baby sheet, packet of molted milk, water bottle, hot water flask, plate, tooth paste and tooth brush and a pair of slippers. |

17th June 2009: The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) has installed an Emergency Response Water Treatment Plant at Vauniya with purification facilities for distribution of drinking water to IDPs in welfare centers in zone 4 of Manik Farm, Vauniya. |

11th June 2009: The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) and International Committee of the Red Cross ( ICRC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 9 June to deliver a coordinated response to meet the needs of the hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons in the Vavuniya district. |

09th June 2009: The City branch of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) has arranged a consignment of relief items consisting bottled water and baby items to IDPs in Vauvniya.10700 bottles of water donated by Suntel telephone Company were handed over to the President of SLRCS Jagath Abeysinghe by a team of representatives of Suntel headed by Prabakar Theagaraja,Head of Procurements at national head quarters of SLRCS in Colombo. |

| 04th June 2009: A Sri Lanka Red Cross Society delegation headed by President Jagath Abeysinghe and National Secretary S.H.Nimal Kumar visited Vavuniya on 04th of June, to find how the society can assist the government in meeting the basic requirements of displaced people living in welfare centres in Vauniya. |
