Sri Lanka Red Cross mourns demise of Director General

06/01/2019, Colombo, Sri Lanka – We profusely mourn the demise of our Director General Mr. Neville Nanayakkara, who passed away at his residence this morning (06-01-2019). He was 71 years old at the time of his demise.

Mr. Neville Nanayakkara was re-appointed as the Director General of the Society from the 10th of January 2016. He has been the Director General from 2005 – 2010 as well. He was instrumental in driving our Society’s Tsunami Reconstruction and Rehabilitation programme.

Born on 20th December 1947, Mr. Nanayakkara had his education at St. Joseph’s College (Colombo, Sri Lanka).  Later on he graduated in Science from University of Ceylon, Post-graduated in Print Media, London College of Communication, London, and Post-graduated in Management from the Research Inst. for Management Science, University of Delft, Netherlands.

Mr. Nanayakkara held the position of Head of Government Printing for over 24 years prior to his previous tenure at Sri Lanka Red Cross.

His achievements include the introduction of Sinhala into digital computers and setting up the Sri Lanka Institute of Printing which now affiliates with the Colombo University in awarding degree level management qualifications to youth in the Print and Advertising fields.

Mr. Nanayakkara was a Fellow of the Institute of Printing, UK & also a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Managers, UK.

The remains will be brought to the Jayarathne Funeral Parlor in Borella and kept for last respects from Tuesday (8th January)  onward. The final rights will take place on the 10th of January 2019, Thursday.
