Supporting Nepal Red Cross to rebuild

12/06/2015 – Kathmandu, Nepal – The President of Sri Lanka Red Cross Society Jagath Abeysinghe along with the Director General Tissa Abeywickrama visited Nepal recently to held discussions with the President and Secretary General of Nepal Red Cross with regard to the rebuilding process after a  7.9 tremor devestated the country in April.

As soon as the earthquake occurred the President and the Director General has been in constant touch with Nepal Red Cross and provided the necessary support by offering human resources, volunteers and other support. A donation drive was also launched in Sri Lanka to collect funds for the relief and recovery operations.

During the visit both the President and the Director General visited devastated areas in Bhakthapur, which was one of the hardest hit areas closer to Kathmandu.

“We understand the pain and pressure the people of Nepal and more so every one at Nepal Red Cross is going through” says President Abeysinghe.

“When we experienced the same in the tsunami every support we got from our partners were indeed an encouraging encounter that helped us to recovery faster.

Meanwhile steps were also taken to transfer the funds collected in Sri Lanka via the donation drive to Nepal Red Cross.
