12/11/2012 – Valachchenai, Sri Lanka: A male and female surgical ward build with funds from German Red Cross & the European Union and implemented by the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society was unveiled to the public recently in Valachchanei in the Batticaloa District.

The ward constructed to a value of 30 million LKR was vested in the public by the President of SLRCS Jagath Abeysinghe and accompanied by the Head of Country Office of German Red Cross in Sri Lanka.

The facilities now give strength to the Valachchenai hospital to treat more patients in house, rather than to keep transferring them to the Batticaloa Hospital due to the lack of space.

The Deputy Director General of SLRCS Sudath Madugalle along with other dignitaries from the hospital were present at the occasion.
