»  Vocational Training programme, Ampara District

The vocational training is one of the components of the PSP Programme of the SLRCS PSP Programme supported by the DRC in Ampara. The project is in Kalmunaikudy on the coast of Ampara. The objectives are to improve the livelihood and to strengthen the employment opportunities of vulnerable women directly and indirectly affected by the tsunami.

The target group are women from the coastal area in Ampara who are trained in sewing, English and computer for 3 months. After completing their 3 months training, follow-up is provided for interested students.

Workshops and trainings in psychosocial topics as well as excursions and social gatherings are organized for students, family members and staff. Further, the centre organizes workshops on self-employment, career counseling and on the job training for students. The VTC is equipped with a library where students can borrow books on class topics as well as on employment and psychosocial issues.

»  School-based Psychosocial and Health programme in Jaffna

150 teachers and 118 volunteers are trained by a learning-by-doing methodology to implement psychosocial and preventive health workshops in the schools. Teachers involved in trining activities at the workshop.

A psychosocial training manual and an IEC preventive health education kit have been developed for training of teachers and RC volunteers in project methodology. The psychosocial manual 'We are little children' has been approved by the NIE and will be distributed to all schools in Sri Lanka in relevant languages with the support of ECHO funding.
