Restoring Family Links Program
 |
SLRCS Tracing Service is member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent tracing network and aims to restore family links for vulnerable families who have been separated due to conflict, disaster, and migration. |
Services
The following services are provided by Sri Lanka Red Cross Society:
- Help in locating a missing family member (Tracing): Many people in Sri Lanka have immediate family members working abroad. Sometimes families loose contact for various reasons. As one of 186 Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies around the world, Sri Lanka Red Cross Society network can help to locate immediate family members.
- Communication (Red Cross Message): When regular postal services are not functioning, Red Cross offers people the possibility to send family news through the Red Cross network. Red Cross Messages often consist of only a few words, but can be effective in easing the minds of loved ones when no other means of communication are available.
Eligibility
Loss of contact because of disaster, migration, and conflict:
Disaster | | Sri Lankan Red Cross helps re-establish contact & communication among family members who have been separated by disaster. SLRCS uses traditional forms and modern technologies such as phones and Internet to help RESTORE FAMILY LINKS (RFL).
|
Migration | | When families lose contact because of migration to another country, SLRCS helps locate and re-establish communication with the family member living abroad through our extensive branch network within Sri Lanka and our sister National Societies of Red Cross and Red Crescent throughout the world. (However SLRCS is not able to help families bringing their relatives back to Sri Lanka from another country. The Restoring Family Links program only assists with locating and re-establishing communication between family members.)
|
Conflict | | If your family member is missing because of conflict, please contact the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) ( click here for contact details of ICRC Colombo delegation in Sri Lanka). Since 1989, on invitation by the government, the ICRC has been active in Sri Lanka in conflict areas, carrying out its traditional humanitarian activities such as visiting detainees, re-establishing family links, assisting & protecting the civilian population, disseminating of rules of International Humanitatian Law and by acting as a neutral intermediary, wherever required.
SLRCS works closely with the ICRC to assist in certain activities to restore family links such as the collection and distribution of family messages. |
