Environment Ministry to support Red Cross climate change programmes

23/01/2014 – Ampara, Sri Lanka: The Secretary to the Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energy Mr. B.M.U.D.Basnayake, visited Ampara District to inspect the Community Based Climate Change Adaptation programmes initiated by the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS).

During his visit he went to Gayathri Village in Thirikkovil Division where he observed the community seed banking activities and forest market gardens. Later on he also visited the Namaloya Village, he observed the paddy farmer field schools.

He appreciated the initiatives taken by the SLRCS as community approaches for climate change adaptation and advised SLRCS to continue the programme.

Furthermore he gave his assurance that his Ministry will extend fullest corporation for these activities.
