First aid for Independence in Ampara

08/02/2012, Ampara, Sri Lanka: The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society’s Ampara Branch conducted a First Aid service for the Provincial Independence Day Celebrations held on the 4th of February 2012 at the main Public Grounds in Ampara.

The event was organized under the patronage of Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils A. H. M. Athaulla. Over 1500 students from several leading schools in the province were present at the event.

Over 30 volunteers who were qualified in First Aid took part in the service to assist the school children who took part in various drills and displays held during the event.

Medical practitioners from the Ampara General Hospital assisted the First  Aid crew in carrying out the service.

The event which saw the participation of over 7000 people were funded by the Canadian Red Cross.
