School children take part in dengue awareness campaign

22/06/2012 – Colombo, Sri Lanka: The Colombo branch of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society launched a campaign against dengue by engaging school children in the Homagama area.The branch organised an art exhibition, involving school children from 30 schools within the Homagama Educational Zone.

Schools were requested to submit 10 best drawings from each school, however over 500 drawings were received and all of them were displayed in the final art exhibition. Prior to the art exhibition dengue awareness campaign in the respective schools in the zone was conducted to raise awareness among the school children.

The public health inspectors in the zone conducted the awareness campaign. The final art exhibition under the theme “we are not afraid of dengue” was held at the Homagama Maha Vidyalaya where over 500 drawings on Dengue prevention were displayed. A large number of school children and teachers attended the exhibition. Awards and certificates were awarded to students who participated in the campaign during the final day of the exhibition.
