Building capacity of Disaster Response teams

23/10/2012: A training for volunteers on water safety, life saving, boat driving and search and rescue was conducted in Bentota, Galle recently in order to build the capacity of these individuals which would enhance their abilities to respond in disasters.

The main objectives of the programme was to increase search and rescue capacity of branch level, motivate volunteers through building their capacities, retain & empower the national and branch level disaster response teams and to make use of physical resources at the branch levels.

25 participants from Vavuniya, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa, Kilinochchi, Badulla, Nuwara-Eliya, Rathnapura, Hambantota, Ampara, Mullativu and Galle were present for the training.

The course was conducted under the guidance from the Galle branch, where participants were given thorough knowledge on how to conduct a successful search and rescue operations in times of disasters.
