Tackling non communicable diseases

17/01/2014 – Mannar, Sri Lanka : The Mannar Branch of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) organized an anti smoking rally with the participation of volunteers and youth in Mannar. The rally was held under the theme “Stop Smoking toward a healthy life”.

Message on preventing of smoking habit was disseminated via loud speakers, banners throughout the city. SLRCS Mannar branch volunteers & Junior Red Cross members placed stickers on each and every shop in the heart of Mannar town, buses and three wheelers.

The anti smoking was initially requested by the Medical Officer of Health (MoH) in Mannar.

Chairman of the SLRCS Mannar Branch J. J Kennedy, Board members, Volunteers, Youths, School JRC members and Staff took part in thewalk.

School students of Alazhar National School, St. Xavier’s National School students PHI mid wives, nurses also took part in the procession.

The procession started from MoH office and proceeded toward Mannar town thereafter. The refreshments were provided for the participants by SLRCS Mannar branch
