Developing communities in Moneragala

26/06/2012 – Wellawaya, Moneragala – People in Thoraara, Ethiliwewa became the proud owners of a community service center that will enable them to develop their community, farming and other services in the village.

The Community Service Center is located at the Wellawaya division in Moneragala district and it was built at  “L4, Thoraara, Ethiliwewa” under the Post flood Recovery Assistance Project implemented by the branch with the funding support of around 1,050,000/- LKR by the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

 

This center was constructed upon a request by the farmers in the area and they hope to utilise this centre for multi-purposes such as to store the grains, vegetables until they sell it to the buyers, hold meetings or occasions and their aim is to begin the pre- school as well.

S. M. Leelawathi, a resident of the village donated this 10 perch land to the Red Cross in order to build this community centre.

The President of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society Jagath Abeysinghe at a ceremony held, vested the centre in the public.

Sudath Madugalla, Head of IFRC in Sri Lanka Bob McKerrow, Chairman of National Youth Committee Ruwan Mapa, Branch Secretary of SLRCS Moneragala Branch Nanda Perera & the Branch Executive Officer of the SLRCS Moneragala branch K. H. Gnanamali were present at the occasion.
