Medical camp assists over 200 persons affected by Meethotamulla garbage dump collapse

22/05/2017 – Colombo, Sri Lanka: The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society in partnership with Global Shapers Colombo Hub held a medical camp in Meethotamulla recently to assist the people still affected from the garbage dump collapse. Over 200 people received treatment from this camp. They were treated to various ailments and diseases that could be direct or indirect result from the environmental hazard that occurred soon after the collapse of the garbage dump.

On the 14th of April 2017 the garbage dump collapsed on the near by houses killing over 30 people. 981 individuals belonging to 228 families had been displaced. In the initial stage Sri Lanka Red Cross provided first aid and support to the survivors. Later on non food relief items were also distributed for them as well.
