New Director General of Sri Lanka Red Cross appointed

12/01/2016 – Colombo, Sri Lanka: The President along with the Governance of Sri Lanka Red Cross is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Neville Nanayakkara as the new Director General of the Society. Mr. Nanayakkara assumed duties  of this position from the 10th of January 2016.

Mr. Nanayakkara comes in with a wealth of expertise in managing major disaster response and is no stranger to the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society. He has been the Director General from 2005 – 2010. He was instrumental in driving our Society’s Tsunami Reconstruction and Rehabilitation programme.

Mr. Nanayakkara had his education at St. Joseph’s College (Colombo, Sri Lanka).  Later on he graduated in Science from University of Ceylon,  Post-graduated in Print Media, London College of Communication, London, and Post-graduated in Management from the Research Inst. for Management Science, University of Delft, Netherlands.

Mr. Nanayakkara held the position of Head of Government Printing for over 24 years prior to his previous tenure at Sri Lanka Red Cross.

His achievements include the introduction of Sinhala into digital computers and setting up the Sri Lanka Institute  of Printing which now affiliates with the Colombo University in awarding degree level management qualifications to youth in the Print and Advertising fields.

He has written and published four books on Digital and on Microprocessor Technology.

Mr. Nanayakkara is a Fellow of  the Institute of Printing, UK & also a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Managers, UK.
