Director General of Sri Lanka Red Cross awarded the National Leadership Award for Disaster Resilience 2014

06/01/2015 – Colombo, Sri Lanka: In recognition of exemplary leadership and remarkable contribution to Disaster Risk Reduction in Sri Lanka, The Director General of Sri Lanka Red Cross Society was awarded “National Leadership Award for Disaster Resilience 2014” by the Government of Sri Lanka.

The award was accepted by Mr. Tissa Abeywickrama, the Director General of Sri Lanka Red Cross from Hon. Chamal Rajapakasa MP, the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka at the National Safety Day commemoration held on 26th Dec 2014, at MRICC in Hambantota, Sri Lanka.

This recognition was made to Mr Tissa Abeywickrama by the Ministry of Disaster Management in Sri Lanka in partnership with Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy of Tulane University of USA and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, facilitated by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center and the Postgraduate Institute of Science of the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka.

 

During the Safety Day Commemoration an exhibition stall depicting the work of Sri Lanka Red Cross was also displayed within the premises.
