The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS), with the support of the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), continues to respond to the urgent needs of communities affected by the recent floods triggered by Cyclone Fengal.

As part of the comprehensive DREF operation, which includes cash grants, Non-Food Relief Item (NFRI) distributions, and other forms of humanitarian support, the educational needs of the affected children have also been prioritized.

In this effort, 950 students in the Ampara District received essential school kits to help them resume their studies without disruption. The distributions, carried out by the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society – Ampara Branch, were held across several severely affected Divisional Secretariat (DS) Divisions: Mahaoya, Damana, Karthivu, and Uhana.

The school kits, containing vital learning materials, were distributed with a focus on uninterrupted education and ensuring children could return to school with dignity and confidence.

Education is the path to a brighter future, and no child should be left behind because of a disaster.
