Sri Lanka Red Cross mourns demise of Director General

07/02/2019, Colombo, Sri Lanka – We profusely mourn the untimely demise of our Deputy Director General Mr. Sudath Madugalle (Col.Rtd), who passed away this morning (07-02-2019). He was 57 years old at the time of his demise. At the time of his demise he was acting as the Director General of the society.

Mr. Madugalle joined Sri Lanka Red Cross Society on 4th of April 2005 as the Executive Director of Human Resources Management and was promoted to the post of Deputy Director General in September 2005. He was instrumental in driving our Society’s Humanitarian Operations effectively and efficiently and played a key role in 2005 Tsunami operations.

Born on 17th August 1962, Mr. Madugalle was educated at Ananda College (Colombo, Sri Lanka).  Later he completed his Higher Education at the University of Rani in India. A cadet of the Ananda College Cadet Platoon Mr. Madugalle later joined Sri Lanka Army as an officer cadet in 1983.

Serving 22 years in Sri Lanka Army Mr. Madugalle retired as a Colonel in the year 2005. Mr. Madugalle rendered his service to the Sri Lanka’s Athletic field as well. He also held key positions such as President of Old Anandian Athletic Association, President of the National Athletic Coachers Association and was also served as the Vice President of the Sri Lanka Athletic Association As well.

Mr. Madugalle was also the Vice President of All Ceylon Buddhist Congress, Deputy Secretary General of the World Fellowship of Buddhists and the Secretary General of the China-Sri Lanka Fellowship of Buddhists as well.

He is survived by his wife and his two children, a daughter and a son.

The remains will be brought to his residence at Indra lane in Kalubowila today (7th Feb) and will be kept for public respect on 9th of February at the Jayaratne Funeral Parlor (The Respect) in Borella.

The final rights will take place on the 9th of February 2019, Saturday 4.oo p.m at the Borella cemetery.
