Sri Lanka Red Cross – Puttalam Branch Lead Beach Cleaning Initiative at Karukupane Beach

The Junior Red Cross (JRC) members and the Youth Committee of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) – Puttalam Branch came together for a meaningful initiative, organizing a Beach Cleaning Program at Karukupane Beach, Chilaw. This initiative aimed to keep the coastline clean and safe, reflecting the Red Cross’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community service.

Pollution, particularly plastic waste, poses a significant threat to coastal ecosystems and marine biodiversity. The volunteers played a vital role in clearing waste and debris from the beach and their efforts will have a lasting impact by reducing pollution, protecting marine life, and fostering a sense of environmental responsibility within the local community.
