Sri Lanka Red Cross Society Recognized for Lifesaving Contributions at National Ceremony for World Blood Donor Day 2025

The National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) of Sri Lanka hosted the National Ceremony for World Blood Donor Day 2025 at Temple Trees, Colombo, under the global theme “Give Blood, Give Hope – Together We Save Lives.”

The event recognized the critical role of voluntary blood donors and mobile blood donation campaign organizers in supporting the national healthcare system. Their contributions help ensure a safe and adequate blood supply across the country.

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) was among the recognized organizations:

  • The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society – Monaragala Branch recognized and received a certificate for organizing voluntary blood donation campaigns.

  • K. Luxsujan, a First Aid Instructor from the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society – Kilinochchi Branch, was awarded a certificate in recognition of his voluntary blood donations, having donated blood 24 times.

  • The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society – Anuradhapura Branch was appreciated for its efforts in conducting mobile blood donation drives.

More than 4,000 individuals and campaign organizers were recognized nationally for their contribution to Sri Lanka’s blood donation program.

The ceremony highlighted the importance of sustained community participation to ensure safe blood availability for medical emergencies, including surgeries, chronic illnesses, and maternal care.
