First Aid awareness for the Police

Most of the deaths that occur due to road accidents happen during the time of the victims being transported from the site of the accident to the hospital. By the time they are brought to the hospital most of them have lost their lives mainly due to the incorrect administration of First Aid.

Taking this fact into account the Nuwara Eliya Branch of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society organized a First Aid training workshop for Police officers who work in the area. The area SSP Gamini Mathurata made the request for such a workshop.

The workshop was held at the premises of the Nuwara Eliya Police.  The Program includes Airway management, Recovery Position, Wounds, Bleeding, Fracture Management, Burns and Patient Transportations.

Well-trained Red Cross officials from the Nuwara Eliya branch conducted the programme, while the branch hopes to expand similar programmes to other Police stations in the district as well.

Meanwhile a recent filed survey by the Police Traffic Department found that in times of accidents Trishaw drivers are the first to respond. Taking this fact into account the SLRCS Nuwara Eliya branch hopes to conduct similar trainings to Trishaw drivers in the area as well.
