SLRCS Conducts First Aid Instructor Refresher Course

(04/09/20013 – Colombo) The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society conducted a Refresher Course for its First Aid Instructors from 31st August 2013 to 02nd September 2013 at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. 27 First Aid Instructors representing 14 SLRCS district branches were participated.

Mr. B.A.W.P. Wimalasena – Hon. Secretary of Kegalle Branch, Dr.Prithi Panditharatne – The Technical Specialist – Health of SLRCS and Dr.Shyam Jayasundara – Program Manager of Health Programmes of Canadian Red Cross Society inaugurated the program by lightning oil lamp traditionally.

Dr.Prithi Panditharatne welcomed the participants and briefed the objectives of the training course. Mr.Upali Amarasekara – The Program Manager of First Aid highlighted the achievements and activities which are being carried out to strength the first aid unit of SLRCS with regard to international and national standards and accreditations. Dr.Shyam Jayasundara expressed his exhilaration about the development of SLRCS First Aid and is proud that being a partner  of this development as the Canadian Red Cross Society.

This course was organized by the Health Department of SLRCS and entire training was facilitated by Dr.Prithi Panditharathne, Mr.Upali Amarasekara – The Program Manager First Aid, Mr.W.A.P. Wimalasena, Mr.Lalith Jayarathna & Mr.Yasantha Lokuhelapitiya – Senior First Aid Instructors of SLRCS, Mr. Jayabuddhi & Mrs.Rohini – Assistant Program Managers of First Aid. Dr.Prasanna Gunasena, Consultant – Neuro Surgeon – Lanka Hospitals conducted a special session on Spinal Injuries.

Certificates were awarded for the participants for their successful completion of the training which renews their First Aid Instructorship for coming 03 years.
