Posted on Friday, February 14th, 2025

With the generous support of the Government of Japan, UNFPA Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, has strengthened maternal and child healthcare services in the Northern Province.

The newly renovated Kayts MOH clinic in Jaffna was ceremonially inaugurated by H.E. Mr. ISOMATA Akio, Ambassador of Japan, while eight upgraded health facilities across Jaffna, Mannar, and Kilinochchi were officially handed over to district health authorities. These include maternity wards, MOH clinics, and Gramodaya health centers, which are now better equipped to provide safer and improved healthcare services for mothers and their infants.

The event was graced by the presence of Mr. K. Balakrishnan (President, Sri Lanka Red Cross Society), Kunle Adeniyi (UNFPA Sri Lanka Country Representative), Dr. Asela Gunawardena (Director General of Health Services), Nagalingam Vedanayagam (Governor, Northern Province), Dr. V.P.S.D. Pathirana (Provincial Director of Health Services, Northern Province), Mr. L. Ilangovan (Chief Secretary, Northern Province), alongside representatives from UNFPA, SLRCS, local authorities, and other distinguished guests.

With every step forward, we build a healthier future where every mother and child receives the care they deserve.
