Our Volunteers

Our volunteers are the beating heart of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS). Since our establishment in 1936, voluntary service helping others without the desire for personal gain has formed the backbone of our National Society. They are our strength, they define who we are, and they help make Sri Lanka a safer, more resilient, and more peaceful place every single day.

About Our Volunteers

Today, the SLRCS proudly boasts an island-wide network of approximately 100,000 members and over 6,500 actively engaged volunteers.

When people think of the Red Cross, they often picture teams responding to major disasters. But this only scratches the surface of what our incredible volunteers achieve. Deeply rooted within their local neighborhoods, SLRCS volunteers drive positive change by tackling a diverse range of critical community needs, including:

Disaster Relief & Response

Deploying rapidly to provide life-saving aid during natural disasters and climate crises.

Health & Emergency Care

Leading community health campaigns, supporting medical centers, and organizing vital blood donor drives.

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

Implementing clean water projects to build healthier environments for rural and vulnerable populations.

Youth & Community Programmes

Running educational initiatives to empower the next generation of humanitarian leaders.

Beyond delivering essential services, our volunteers play a vital role in fostering unity amidst diversity, bridging community gaps, and advocating fiercely on behalf of those who are most vulnerable.
