Mullaitivu
Mullaitivu district which was created in 1979 occupies the Eastern Part of the Northern Province.
The ethnic composition of the population is 87% Tamils, 9 % Muslims and 4% Sinhalese.
It covers land area approximately 2516.9 sq km (including Forest area excluding large inland water). This district accounts for 3.8% of the country’s total area. Mullaitivu District was mostly affected by three decades of war and tsunami. Major Economic Sources are Agriculture and Fishing
This district consists of six AGA divisions ( Maritimepattu, Puthukkudiyiruppu, Oddusuddan, Thunukkai, Manthai East and Welioya )
Currently the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society branch, established in 1991, serves the communties of this district in various times of difficulties that echoed through the war and other natural calamities.
