Livelihood support to the flood affected

23/01/2017 – Colombo, Sri Lanka: The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society’s Colombo Branch today took steps to distribute cash grants to flood affected people (2016) within the Homagama Divisional Secretariat area. These cash grants are aimed at providing livelihood support to these people. SLRCS has provided these cash grants with the support from Oxfam Sri Lanka.  15,000 rupees were provided to 200 families in the initial stage.

Today the distribution took place amidst the participation of the Homagama Assistant Divisional Secretary Mrs.  along with the President of Sri Lanka Red Cross Jagath Abeysinghe and the Branch Executive Officer of SLRCS Colombo Branch Kumari Kotalawala.

SLRCS has been providing on going support to the flood affected since last May. The total contribution to flood affected in Colombo, Gampaha and Kegalle district has exceeded 2 million USD. 1200 families will be served under the project with funding from Oxfam and the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies.
