Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) is the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka's National Society. Its legal status is derived from a Royal Charter issued in 1951. (Original at the UK Privy Council office). The Geneva Convention of August 12, 1949, and UN Resolution 55 (1) recognise the Red Cross National Society as an auxiliary to the government in its humanitarian activities, as well as its right to act on its fundamental principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntarism, unity, and universality.
