Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Sessions Empower Schoolgirls in Puttlam
In a collaborative effort to promote menstrual health, dignity, and education among school-aged children, the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS), in partnership with Fems by Hemas and United Communities, successfully conducted Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Sessions across 10 schools in the Puttlam District.
The initiative aimed to break the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation, equipping young girls with essential knowledge on menstrual hygiene management and building their confidence to care for their health with dignity. The sessions featured interactive discussions, educational materials, and the distribution of sanitary products, creating a safe, respectful space for students to learn and engage.
By fostering open conversations and promoting awareness, this series of programmes seeks to ensure that no girl is held back by her period, supporting their right to health, education, and empowerment.
This initiative marks another step in the collective commitment of SLRCS and its partners to advocate gender equality and ensure access to basic health education across communities.
