Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in Sri Lanka Engages Parliamentarians in Strategic Briefing
The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS), together with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), conducted a strategic briefing for Members of Parliament at the Parliament Complex.
Held under the patronage of the Hon. Deputy Speaker, Dr. Rizvi Salih, the session aimed to strengthen dialogue between the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and national legislators. It provided a comprehensive overview of the Movement’s neutral, impartial, and independent humanitarian mandate, while also highlighting the longstanding contributions of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society as an auxiliary to the Government of Sri Lanka.
The session was attended by a number of Members of Parliament, alongside senior parliamentary officials, including Mr. Hansa Abeyratne, Assistant Secretary General of Parliament, and Mr. Jayalath Perera, Director of the Department of Legislative Services and Acting Director of Communications.
Distinguished speakers, including Dr. Mahesh Gunasekara (Director General, SLRCS), Ms. Severin Chappaz (Head of Delegation, ICRC), Mr. John Entwistle (Head of Delegation, IFRC South Asia), and other key officials, shared insights into the Movement’s ongoing humanitarian efforts and its impact across Sri Lanka

This important engagement underscores our dedication to delivering humanitarian assistance aligned with national priorities and reinforces long-term collaboration to serve the most vulnerable communities across Sri Lanka.
