Switzerland Supports Sri Lanka Red Cross Society’s Response to Cyclone Ditwah
The Embassy of Switzerland to Sri Lanka and the Maldives has extended its support to the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah, which caused severe disruption across the country.
The cyclone partially damaged the Mavil Aru Dam in the Trincomalee District, triggering widespread flooding and the destruction of hectares of agricultural land. These impacts have severely affected farming communities, resulting in the loss of livelihoods and sources of income.
In response to the situation, the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society is implementing a rapid, humanitarian intervention to address urgent needs and support early recovery. Through this initiative, 1,500 affected households in Muttur and Seruwila will receive essential assistance to help them cope with immediate challenges.
The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society extends its sincere appreciation to the Embassy of Switzerland to Sri Lanka and the Maldives for its timely support and solidarity with communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
