29/06/2017 – Colombo, Sri Lanka: The Federal Republic of Germany today donated 16.5 million rupees (100,000 Euros) for the longer term recovery phase programme for floods and landslides that occurred in the month of May this year.
The funds will be mainly utilized for water & sanitation along with hygiene promotion activities.
Accordingly the signing of the agreement took place today at the Germany Embassy in Colombo amidst the presence of His Excellency Jörn Rohde, the German ambassador to Sri Lanka.
Deputy Director General of Sri Lanka Red Cross Society Sudath Madugalle and the Finance Manager of Sri Lanka Red Cross also took part on behalf of the Society.
The German Government’s cash grant is in response to international appeal for donations made by the SLRCS in collaboration with the IFRC.
These funds will be utilized for activities such as to establish 30 safe water storage tanks, 120 water points to be constructed/repaired, and numerous permanent and mobile toilets to be built.
Furthermore, trainings will be conducted that will focus on promoting hygiene in handling water and food, as well as to promote vector control.
