The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society Provides Cash Assistance to Flood-Affected Migrants

Posted on Thursday, March 12th, 2026

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) provided unconditional cash grants to 156 flood-affected migrants/refugees residing in the Gampaha District, enabling them to address their most urgent needs and begin recovering from the impact of the disaster.

The initiative was implemented with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) through the Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF).

In the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, many migrant families experienced significant hardships due to flooding. Through this targeted cash assistance, SLRCS ensured that vulnerable migrants were not overlooked in the humanitarian response.

This effort reflects the commitment of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society to deliver assistance based on need alone, ensuring that the most vulnerable communities receive timely and dignified support during emergencies.
